I don't know that I can single out five items. The Graphics section in general has some neat stuff. Particularly check out some of Pierre's extended picture montages. The BG discussions have some interesting points for people still interested in debating BSG's strengths and weaknesses. Lots of neat fictions. For those of you interested in more ambitious stuff, Obstinate Tin Soldier is a good extended story. Interesting bits surface in this Friday Five thread. Yeah, okay, I have to say it. If you liked the show, check out the epic fic Sometimes a Stupid Notion. It has turned out better than I envisioned, seems to have struck a genuine chord of sorts, and actually proved to me that I did love that show, no matter how disenchanted I was with the home stretch.

You all have pretty much gotten to mine, although Pierre's shared some fun stuff in the auctions thread, I enjoy the recipes thread and the Love Boat (My present! Mine!) more than I should. I'll throw down a rec for mamaboolj's Whistler fics; those are an unexplored genre, and quite good.

Totally off topic. What are five things you hate about work or school?1. Having so many different systems with different passwords, each of which has to be changed so often and can't use the blasted previous ones forever!!!!! 2. The same old arguments over why we have to follow the Code of Federal Regulations, which we all hate but, is, you know... the law. 3. The energy saver switch on my lights that turns them off if I don't walk by every 20-30 minutes. 4. The lights in the hallways that beep every five seconds (I'm not kidding) if one burns out. It's supposedly a safety feature. 5. Like, they actually expect me to be here. Geez. What a buzzkill.

I am not...and never have been...a morning person. Forcing myself out of a warm bed...especially in winter...has always been my least favorite thing to do. Now, if I was in charge, the world would begin at noon.

Yeah, showing up. What's with that? They're so demanding, those miserly employers.

1. I second the password problem. Except it can't be a real word or name, must be rotated weekly, and security has no sense of humor if you forget it. 2. They won't issue us individual isolation suits so we have to share and it seems like I always get one that was just worn by someone who was either very sweaty, has B.O., or both. 3. Those darn immutable laws of physics 4. That squishy guy in the Safety Dept. who is always worrying about "Things Man Was Not Meant to Know." pfff. 5. Just when I get used to the new lab location and find a nice place to get lunch nearby one of those Rainbow Six teams always drops by, shoots up the custodial staff, burns the place to the ground, and we have to move the facility again!
BTW, NT2, I don't understand your complaint #2. WTF?

Basically, the CFR establishes regulatory requirements, a number of which are "one size fits all" dumb things. But they are the law, and the company is liable to hefty fines that will get people fired if it doesn't follow them in a project. So the ideal solution is to simply do them as quick as possible to get them out of the way. But you always bog down with the "why do we have to do this, this is stupid" conversation. You spend more time on that than simply getting the d@ng thing done. Or to put it simply: "Of course it's stupid. That's the whole point. Can we stop talking about it now? "

If you could spend a week's vacation in some fictional location, then what five places would be on your travel itinerary?

1. Kobol 2. Caprica City 3. Altair IV 4. Vulcan 5. Freedonia
Kobol is my favorite planet in the BSG universe. So mysterious, yet so beautiful.

I second Ringworld and prefall Caprica (what was the address of Boomer's apt. again?). Also: Earth during the original Star Trek era. Malacandra Middle EarthI would like to visit an L5 colony, but I don't know any good fiction that is based on one.
